Iuan along side his family and friends are completeing a series of challenges in order to raise funds and awareness with regards to Brain Tumours.
A few of facts regarding Brain Tumours:
- Brain tumours have recently overtaken leukaemia as the most common malignancy and cause of death in children.
- Approximately only one third of patients survive for five years following the diagnosis of a primary or malignant brain tumour.
- Brain tumour research is under-funded and the public, in general, is unaware of the magnitude of the problem.
Iuan was diagnosed with a Brain Tumour on the 10th September 2014. He had been a super fit, healthy, happy child previously until he developed a headache and sickness and was eventually scanned to discover the cause. He was rushed for Emergancy surgery and although the tumour turned out to be Benign could have killed him and has left him with life long side affects. After a total of 5 surgeries so far, with less than 50% of the tumour being safely removed. He then had to undergo nearly 3 months in America recieving Proton Beam Therapy.
Iuan has experianced lots of pain and lows along his journey but has managed to stayed extremely positive.
After his first operation he decided he wanted to raise money to help other children like him self to research safer treatment and hopefully one day find a cure so that others do not have to endure the dreadful ordeal he has had to go through!
He has been supported by many organisations, but the two main have been BTRS & Harry's Star BTRS.
