The AWE Team Challenge is a one day team building event for AWE employees. It has evolved to become an annual teambuilding event, started in 2006 it has had four successful events; the interest has been building from year to year and it is now back again for the fifth year running, better than ever!
The Team Challenge is aimed to provide an opportunity for employees to develop and exercise competencies which are transferable to the workplace; increasing communication and embracing teambuilding skills as well as providing a fantastic opportunity to network and meet new people.
There are obvious advantages including the following:
* Promoting cross-broadband and cross-directorate relations,
* Maintaining good inter team communication and team working skills,
* Exercising time, risk and project management skills,
* Promoting fun, physical and mental fitness to AWE employees,
* Encouraging innovative and creative thinking in unusual situations not normally found in the work place,
* Promoting leadership and management qualities
The AWE Team Challenge gives provision of AWE entries for the UK Challenge and generates fundraising for AWE charities of the year 2010 and the NSPCC; the UK Challenge's chosen charity.

NSPCC
The NSPCC's vision is to end cruelty to children in the UK. We campaign to change the law, provide Child Line and the NSPCC Helpline, offer advice for adults, and much more. See what's new with our work - or make a difference by volunteering or donating.
Help for Heroes was launched in October 2007 in response to the desire of ordinary people to do something practical for the men and women of our Armed Forces who are wounded whilst serving in the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Chief of the General Staff was asked to suggest an initial task for the charity. It was decided that the charity could best help by raising £6 million to provide a much needed swimming pool and gym complex at the tri-services rehabilitation centre at Headley Court. That task is now complete and Help for Heroes has given £8 million to Headley Court. Help for Heroes continues to raise money to ensure that the wounded get the best practical help, support and future that they deserve.
Help for Heroes in non-critical and non-political - it simply wants to do something to help those very special people who are brave enough to serve their country and are wounded while doing so. It's about Derek, a rugby player who has lost both his legs, it's about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. It's about Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he lay on the stretcher so he could say goodbye to his wife. It's about Ben, it's about Steven and Andy and Mark, and it's about them all. They are our heroes.
The Pelican Cancer Foundation is very involved with the work of Professor Bill Heald, Mr Brendan Moran and colleagues at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital who have achieved so much to improve the outcomes for patients with cancers in the pelvic region. The name Pelican is derived from PElvic and LIver CANcer.
Today the aims of the charity remain sponsorship of medical research and medical education that can advance precision surgery and contribute to patient survival and especially better quality of life following treatment for rectal, liver, prostate and bladder cancer. For local patients the advantage of having a Centre of Excellence at the local hospital is obvious; clinicians whose expertise is considered "the gold standard" or best practice as treatment for cancer patients and the latest technology and methodology used on patients. The hospital also attracts the brightest and the best young clinicians who wish to come to the area to work with, and learn from, the experts in their field.
All are welcome, family/ friends/ friends of friends/ work colleagues. Please feel free to pass this invite to anyone that you think may be interested in taking part.
