Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm volunteering and trekking in Vietnam for Hospice Of St Francis (Berkhamsted) because it's an amazing chance to make a real difference.......
From 26th April until 6th May I will be taking on the challenge of a lifetime and in the process I will be making a difference to both our Hospice patients and the local people of Vietnam.
I will be trekking through jungle trails, past rice paddies and alongside gushing rivers and spending nights with local families in their traditional stilted houses in remote villages, then for two days we will be putting to use our skills on a community project in the bustling city of Hanoi. As long as they need someone who is good at cleaning and painting I will be fine and pay no attention to the wee beasties, mosquitos, snakes, comodo dragons etc etc...... I will have my blessed bleach spray to hand and will leave the jungle clearing spik and span!
The awful Vietnam War ended nearly 40 years ago, many children are to this day born with horrific facial deformities due to the 20 million gallons of Agent Orange chemical sprayed during the war. We will be spending time at a centre which looks after some of these abandoned children, playing with the children and helping out with DIY projects.
The Hospice of St Francis must find £12,500 per day (£4.6m a year) to run its free services. Only 20% of its funding is from the government - the remainder comes from people like you, who care enough to make a donation so that this charity can keep on helping others in their hour of need.
Please dig deep and donate what you can so I can raise as much money as possible for The Hospice of St Francis.
With your help I will be able to assist in providing some of the following.......
£5 two smoothies for a patient with poor appetitie or an evening support call to a family coping with bereavement.
£25 a days oxygen supply for a patient with breathing difficulties.
£50 could support the work of our Child Support Team, who help bereaved children remember loved ones at fun events such as Pony Trekking at the Hospice.
£150 could keep our Community Specialist Nurse Team on the road for two weeks.
£250 could provide three months of equipment and accessories for our Complementary Therapy Service, which offers a range of therapies including massage, aromatherapy and reiki.
£300 could pay for 10 one-hour home visits by our Community Specialist Nurse Team.
£950 could purchase and maintain a syringe drive to administer medication to patients in a less intrusive yet more accurate and effective way.
£1,450 could pay for a patient in our Inpatient Unit to receive 3 days medical and emotional care.
£3,174 could purchase an electric profiling mattress system, which is particularly beneficial to patients with cancer who suffer from lymphedema.
Many thanks for supporting me and for supporting The Hospice of St Francis.
