We care about children in Kenyan slums to give them an education and life chances

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Last year Isabelle rode in a seat on the back of my bike, now one year on she has said said goodbye to her stabilizers and her much loved "honeybee bike" and now has "Spotty" and is going to cycle with me. Its a tough route for a 5 year old but she is really looking forward to it.

Who we are doing our bike ride for?

ACEF

We are a volunteer-led charity that aims to advance the education and health of the 900 plus vulnerable children that attend the Brainhouse Academy situated in Mathare North, Kenya – one of the world’s largest slums.

The school was established by the local community in 2003 to help educate street children, vulnerable children and children of families who could not afford the cost of education. No child seeking education is ever turned away.

Children are schooled from nursery through to high school and all receive one meal a day of porridge. The facilities are basic. When ACEF began working with the school there was no electricity, no running water with just two non flush toilets for all staff and children. There were no school books and very limited sleeping conditions for over half of the school population who are orphaned and live within the school.

Brainhouse Academy receives no Government funding or development support. It is a community school based within a slum and is simply not recognised by the Government. The school survives entirely on donations making day to day existence a never ending challenge.

Despite these circumstances, the staff at the school believe in the skills and abilities of every single child and work tirelessly to support the education of these vulnerable children.

We want to support the staff in delivering the promise to every child, by giving them an all round education, demonstrating that people genuinely care about their futures and wellbeing, and above all, inspiring each child to be all that they can be.

We help by providing:
  • Essential Food
  • Healthcare
  • Equipment and developments to the school site
  • Sharing approaches to Education
  • Access to sports, games, arts and crafts
