Story
I am going to be spending 10-12 weeks this summer in Rwanda my motherland volunteering over there and doing my bit to help the country recover after the devastating 1994 genocide tore the country apart and helped contribute to the extreme poverty that can be found there. I have been given this opportunity by tear fund and i am currently raising awareness of these issues and also trying to fundraise my target of £800 or more.
Tearfund is an amazing christian organisation that aims to help people in the world who are in the greatest need regardless of race, religion, gender or nationality. Buy supporting me you morning will be going towards this. Tearfund identifies the places of greatest poverty and they work with local churches wherever they can with training and equipping them to end poverty and rebuilt their communities. Tearfund allows volunteers like myself to go and work in Rwanda (amongst other countries) alongside volunteers from the local communities that I will be working in. In Rwanda, an estimated 64.7% of Rwandans lack access to sanitation facilities and many live below the poverty line. Through this project, Tearfund volunteers focus on creating strong communities through social, environmental and economic support, and providing safe water and sanitation. The genocide of 1994 of which i am a survivor lead tot he loss of i million lives and the creation of some 800 000 refuges and displaced persons and it also had a devastating social and economic effect on the country. 20 years after the fact Rwanda is slowly recovering and i need you support to help them in this journey
Below are some links to check out some work that have been carried out from volunteers so far in other 3rd world countries!
