Story
In February 2020 our Dad passed away from pancreatic cancer at the young age of 54.
Pancreatic cancer is very aggressive and more than half of the people diagnosed with this type of cancer die within 3 months - an unacceptable amount. The odds are awful and research is dramatically underfunded.
My sister and I are organising a 24 hour Badminton Marathon to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK to go towards research to improve detection and treatment options. This will be on the 5th February 2022 starting at 13:30pm at Abbeydale Sports Club, Sheffield.
Our Dad was always massively active and is a major reason why we play badminton for our respective university’s (Newcastle University and Sheffield Hallam University) which is why we’ve chosen to raise money how we have. Dad was always passionate about sport - he was a PE teacher and also coached football for 2 years in the US when he was younger - and was playing football up to around September 2019, even after rounds of chemotherapy. Getting young people involved in sport has always been a drive for him and he achieved this throughout everything he ever did.
We’d really appreciate it if people can come and play and donate to our cause - people from both our University’s will be playing. Any little helps. If you could all share the fundraiser on Facebook/Instagram as well that would be a massive help too!
Pancreatic Cancer UK is dedicated to taking on this injustice using every possible means. They're supporting people with pancreatic cancer now, campaigning, and funding vital research to transform the future. Help them to make the breakthroughs that people with pancreatic cancer so desperately need.
