Story
Rainy had been suffering with her left eye for some time, with inflammation of the eye and head-shaking. Unresponsive to antibiotic drops, the decision was taken to refer her for a specialist opinion.
I was so impressed with the Animal Health Trusts work with Prince my big horse and the whole of the AHT that I knew there was only one place to take Rainy.
Rainy was referred to the ophthalmologists at the AHT, and straight away Rachael Grundon noticed that her left eye was significantly under-developed with little vision and suffering recurrent uveitis. Rainy’s right eye was also affected by developmental anomalies, with lens sub luxation and a cataract. Unfortunately, Rainy’s left eye had to be removed at the age of 1, but she is now much more comfortable.
She is so much happier and content now and has really adapted to life with one eye. She couldn’t have carried on with that painful condition, so removing her eye was definitely the right thing to do. At 5 years old the uncertainty of how long the sight in her remaining eye will last is always a worry.
We try and live life to the full and stick to routine. If it wasn’t bad enough the poor girl was diagnosed with lateral patella luxation in her hind too. She is a little doddery bless her, but it makes me love her even more, she’s just extra special.
Isabella indirectly benefited from AHT's work as she prolapsed her rectum twice and biopsies and bloods were sent to the labs there to be interpreted. Isabella was on the verge of being put to sleep due to severe gastrointestinal issues with nutritional absorbency problems. Through a lot of intense care and surgery we are blessed to have her with us today – Isabella aka Miss Attitude!
These girls are on a mission to help more Animals like themselves benefit from pioneering treatment and fund new research for potential cures to end suffering.
