Story
In 2021 I will be completing a 6 day (81km) trek around Machu Picchu. My climb is in aid of the Meningitis Research Foundation; a charity which aims to research and raise awareness of two serious diseases, Meningitis and Septicaemia. I am a second year history student at Nottingham Trent University. I love to travel and take on a challenge and when the opportunity rose to do both and help fundraise for a charity with a life changing aim, I couldn't turn it down! I will be completing various fundraising activities over the next 8 months in order to reach my goal.
Shockingly, meningitis and neonatal sepsis are the second biggest infectious killer of children under the age of five on the planet, affecting more than 5 million people every year! They can kill you within 12 hours and are responsible for more deaths of children under 5 than malaria, measles, tetanus and AIDS combined. Meningitis Research Foundations work is providing better access to vaccines, health systems that can diagnose and treat children, and support to survivors of meningitis.
Therefore, I look forward to the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and not only experience new cultures and places, but to also help out a charity with the life changing aim to beat Meningitis and Septicaemia.
