IRONMAN UK · 4 July 2021
Simply put, I love rhinos. But, I also love a challenge.
On the 4th July I will complete my first Ironman (my second triathlon) in Bolton, UK which includes a 2.4 mile (3.8km) swim, 112 mile (180.2 km) ride and 26.2 mile (42.2 km) run. I am not a swimmer, and have struggled with a number of hip issues (torn cartilage and TFL) but the Ironman is nothing next to the challenge rhinos are facing.
By completing the Ironman my aim is to help the species survive at sustainable levels in their natural habitat. Rhino have been on the planet for 50 million years, and have evolved into their current form throughout that time as the environment and their habitat has changed. They now face their biggest challenge as man restricts their natural habitat and kills them for their horn. They are perhaps symbolic of a struggle between man and the natural world.
