Story
I’m upping my fund raising from an Olympic Distance triathlon in 2016 to a full distance Ironman in 2021 -
- a 3.8 km (2.4 mile) swim,
- 180 km (112 mile) bike
- and a 42km (26.2 mile) run
This will take approximately 13-15 hours to complete. I will complete the distances on October 23rd 2021 at Ironman Cascias, Portugal if all goes well. However, if Covid means I am unable to travel or the event is cancelled, I will complete the distances locally.
Bigger distances but the same cause:
Endometriosis (pronounced en- doh – mee – tree – oh – sis) has affected many women in my family. Seeing how it impacts a woman's quality of life (especially that of my sister) has driven me to take an active role in the ever growing Endometriosis awareness movement.
It's more than a disease of the reproductive system - it's a chronic condition that impacts many areas of day-to-day life, as well as creating complications for long term physical health, sexual health, fertility and mental health.
This is more about raising awareness than raising money. 1 in 10 women of reproductive age in the UK suffer from endometriosis. 10% of women world wide have endometriosis - that’s 176 million women worldwide. Despite it's prevalence, it takes an average of 8 years from onset of symptoms to get a diagnosis.
Even if you're based in somewhere outside of the UK, you should check out www.endometriosis-uk.org/ for more info.
My target of £1000 won't change the world, but every little helps! 100% of donations go to EndoUK.
