UWC philosophy applied to our student residences in Mostar
United World College in Mostar (UWC Mostar) is part of the global UWC movement and one of the 18 UWC schools around the world. UWC Mostar remains the only UWC with the explicit aim to contribute to the reconstruction of a post-conflict society. In the past decade of its operation, UWC Mostar demonstrated that education has the power to rise beyond ethnic, religious and political divides with the aim of creating a sustainable and progressive post-conflict society. An important part of our story is our physical presence across the city that remains divided, with our academic and residential facilities scattered around and integrated within local neighbourhoods. Since 2006 that has been achieved through renting of buildings for school residences, at great financial cost for our school. In the past couple of years UWC Mostar has been working very hard on finding the financial means to purchase and equip residences able to provide our students with a more appropriate setting for their own day-to-day needs.

New residence Šantić opens soon!
The second residence that is fully owned by UWC Mostar, Šantić, should open its doors by the end of October 2020. This residence was awarded the Zayed prize for sustainability in the category of high school students, and was recognized as the first environmentally conscious building in Mostar. Located very close to the school, the residence will host up to 56 students in 14 bedrooms. In addition to student rooms, housefellow apartments, joint and study rooms, it also includes a large multimedia space.

Flexible furniture designed by famous Dutch designer and produced by local carpenters
Piet Hein Eek, a Dutch designer famous for using recycled materials in his designs, has designed the furniture for the residence in a pro-bono engagement. He is working and training local carpenters to manufacture the furniture locally. The student bed and desk are changeable so that high-sleepers or double sleepers can be created and allow for the desk to be separate or underneath the bed. This will allow the students to become their own interior designers and arrange their rooms to their taste.

We need your help - Donate to the UWC Mostar Alumni room!
We, the UWC Mostar Alumni Board, are initiating this fundraising drive to help furnish one of the rooms in the new student residence, and through this make a lasting contribution for future UWC generations embarking on what could be the two best years of their lives. A set of furniture for one student that includes a bed, a wardrobe, a desk and a chair costs €1600 which adds up to €6400 for a four-person bedroom. The prices per item are:
