Story
The team at Irlams participated in this year's 'Tough Mudder North West' to support our local charity, East Cheshire Hospice.
On Sunday 9th September 2018 five of us (Director Tim Irlam & his team; Dan Hutchings, Anthony Leach, Matthew Fairhurst & Gina Hughes) tackled the tough 10 mile course comprising 20 plus obstacles, wading through 500,000 litres of mud and 40 tons of ice cold water!! Are we mad? Yes, but all for an excellent cause!
At some point in our lives we are all affected by cancer or other life limiting illnesses. Earlier this year a member of our team lost someone very close to them so having experienced first-hand the level of care that East Cheshire Hospice provided for them and their family this charity was an easy decision to support.
East Cheshire Hospice provide compassionate palliative care and offer support to many local families. The hospice relies on fundraising to pay for over 80% of their daily costs, allowing them to support families who are facing the toughest challenge of their lives.
Irlams, as a company are very proud to support East Cheshire Hospice and have become a member of their new corporate giving scheme, the 500 club. This is a pledge to raise at least £500 over the course of the year through charitable events and donations.
However, this year we set a target of £1,500 on our Just Giving page and so far have reached circa £1,800 with the link still active for anyone still wishing to donate.
After months of training for this event it was worth every effort and at the finish line, we all agreed it was “very exhausting” & “very very muddy” but overall excellent teamwork, relying on each other to get through the obstacles with lots of fun & laughter along the way!
Kate from ECH writes ''It's fantastic that Irlams have chosen East Cheshire Hospice as their Chairty of the year. We receive only 15% of funds from the NHS and therefore rely on the kind generosity of our local community to help raise the £7,500 needed a day. Support from local companies such as Irlams is so encouraging and very gratefully received.''
