Those of you who know me know how passionate I am about women, babies and midwifery. Childbearing women need and deserve the best care possible in pregnancy, labour and childbirth. This is best given by knowledgeable, autonomous and professional midwives who work in collaboration with other health professionals and refer to doctors and others as appropriate. Women deserve an evidence based maternity service that is there to offer true informed choice, especially in regard to place of birth and type of care offered. They deserve to know their midwife and have continuity of carer. Midwives are best placed to offer such a service. However for many, many women it is a case of like it or lump with very medicalised treatment. As for midwives, the very profession is under threat as never before!  Leadership is undermined, supervision has been scrapped, the role is undermined and eroded, independent midwifery is in the balance and the NMC does not seem to be acting on behalf of women and midwives. 

The Association of Radical Midwives is campaigning to Save the Midwife and for better midwifery regulation to ensure women's rights, safety and true choice are paramount.  So I am going to go from couch potato to run the 10k in 12 weeks because midwives are worth it!!
