Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running the Edinburgh Marathon for Papyrus in memory of one of my best friends Charlotte Cobbald who took her own life at the age of 17 after a long battle with anorexia and depression. In the very worst way this raised my awareness of the terrible issue of teenage mental health and its sometimes tragic consequences. Since Charlotte's passing, I have supported the hospital where she received such wonderful care, and I have learnt a great deal about the need for resources and support for young people and their families who are affected by mental health and young suicide.
Papyrus offers support to prevent young suicide and gives hope to young people. Through their HOPEline they offer direct help to those contemplating suicide and those worried about a young person's mental health. They train professionals and campaign and influence national policy.
I knew Charlotte for six years and she was one of the happiest, craziest and most hilarious people I have had the pleasure of calling a friend. Her illness and death came as more than a shock to me and I am passionate about raising awareness of the risk of suicide in young people and getting them and their families and friends the help they need before it is too late.
As a young person myself I recognise the pressures and demands placed on young adults. I am determined to do everything that I can to keep Charlotte's memory alive and to prevent others from suffering as she did.
