Invest in Educating Palestinian Youths in Gaza
As we are approaching the blessed month of Ramadan, about 2 million Palestinians are still suffering many serious psychological, social and economic problems caused by a prolonged blockade (10 years in June), 3 destructive wars and prolonged occupation; all causing abject poverty, deprivation and high unemployability.
Here are some heart touching facts and figures based on UNRWA and UNDP published sources:
- High poverty rate reaching 40%.
- “About 410,000 families are living under the abject poverty line.
- Almost 80% of Palestinians in Gaza depend on humanitarian assistance for survival.
- Average monthly family income in Gaza is “$174” as reported by the UNDP.
- The average family members in Gaza is about 6 children adding a further heavy stress on these poor families.
- Poor families of about 8,000 students (62% females) out of 20,000 students currently enrolled at the Islamic University of Gaza (IUG) cannot continue affording educating their sons and daughters.
Objectives
- to improve the livelihood and build better future for these needy students and their families.
- to reduce poverty rate by enabling these disadvantaged youths to become self-dependent professionals in medicine nursing, engineering, IT, science, law, Islamic studies, arts, etc.
How to Invest in Educating Palestinian Youth?
