Story

Major Kathy Betteridge, (Director Anti – Trafficking and Modern
Slavery Department) and Rachel, (Head of Integrated Mission) are running the London Marathon to raise funds for the work of the Anti – Trafficking and Modern Slavery Department. We have decided to team up to raise as much funds as possible for the amazing work carried out across all our Department throughout the UK and Ireland. Please support us in this great work.

About Us:

“As a keen runner I want to focus my energies and training to help support the amazing work our department does in supporting survivors of Modern Slavery.  The commitment and compassion are outstanding and deserves to be recognised.  The individuals we support are of utmost importance to us and the money raised through running this marathon will continue to help them recover and rebuild their lives.  Thank you in anticipation of your support”. Kathy

“I enjoy sporting activities and always ready for a new challenge.
Therefore, decided to run the London Marathon to raise funds for the amazing work carried out across our department to survivors of Modern Slavery. It is a privilege to work in this Department and I have seen lives rebuilt and individuals move into independence. This work is vital, and all funds raised will go towards the continuation of this outstanding work. Thank you in anticipation of supporting our journey to seeing lives changed”. Rach

The Salvation Army provides specialist support to protect and care for all adult survivors of modern slavery in England and Wales through a government contract which was first awarded in 2011 and extended in 2021.Our care of survivors of modern slavery has highlighted the exploitation of both men and women in a variety of ways including forced labour on farms, in factories, on building sites, in car washes, nail bars, and criminal activity such as cannabis farming as well as sexual exploitation and domestic servitude, some suffering domestic abuse. The Salvation Army provides and coordinates Safe Houses, and outreach support for such survivors. Each resident receiving Salvation Army support is respected and valued as an individual and the support they are offered is holistic and tailored to meet individual needs.
