Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am completing a charity bike ride in memory of Kieran Amos our former Chief Fire Officer in Warwickshire. I'm starting on Sunday, 20th February 2022 and will ride 32 miles a day for 14 consecutive days until Saturday, 5 March 2022.

Kieran passed away in November 2021 after a short illness, he had dedicated 32 years of his life to the Fire and Rescue Service across the country.

I am currently recovering from surgery after being hit be a car while cycling home, so I am unable to ride a real bicycle at the moment and for a while yet.

Since my accident, I have been supported hugely by The Fire Fighters Charity in my physical and mental recovery. I have had regular support from both a Psychological Therapist and Physiotherapist, for this I am truly grateful.

During the first lockdown in 2020, Kieran gave me his personal Spinning bike. So I will complete my 14 day challenge on that bike in his memory, riding 32 miles every day...a mile for every year of service that Kieran gave.

As a firefighter you are taught the skills, knowledge and understanding to do the job. Over time and with experience comes the competency, confidence and practical firemanship as it's called.

Kieran lead from the front, he was inspirational, he showed compassion, human kindness and demonstrated not how to be better at firefighting but how to be a better firefighter!

As an on-call firefighter, you're bottom of the food chain in the organisation...as CFO you're at the very top...Kieran treated all people, at every level 'equal'...not the same, but equal...he lead with integrity, loyalty and was very inclusive and valued everyone's uniqueness.

Kieran totally understood the commitment required to be an on-call firefighter...most of us have a full time job, family, friends and other interests and hobbies...Kieran respected and appreciated the sacrifices that on-call firefighters made so that they could serve their local communities...and communities were at the heart of what Kieran stood for.

Kieran supported me in my personal life and work life and in all the charity events I organised, he encouraged me to try and be the best version of me and gave me the courage to keep pushing the boundaries...that I did and will continue to do.

Kieran was more than our Chief Fire Officer, he was also a friend...the very best a human being could be...I feel honoured and privileged to have met him and worked under his leadership.

His strength, support, wisdom and positivity will be forever appreciated and he will be missed...as will his smiling eyes and embracing 'larger than life' personality.

RIP Kieran. 🙏❤
