Story
We are 5 passionate cyclists from Insights and we put our heads together to find a way to use that passion to tackle a challenge that would stretch our abilities, help us learn more about ourselves and raise much needed funds for our charity - Mary's Meals.
The challenge?
Scotland's North Coast 500 route - 500 miles over 5 days on push bikes powered by nothing more than legs and pure determination!
The route consists of stunning coastal scenery, naturally following the main roads across the coastal edges of the North Highlands taking in the villages and towns of places like Ullapool, Durness, John O'Groats, Dornoch and Inverness. It also includes the world renowned mountain pass, Bealach na Bà, the greatest ascent of any road in the UK, rising from sea level to 626 metres (2,054 feet) with gradients approaching 20%!
A BIG challenge
Each day we will cycle around 100 miles (160km) and climb around 7200 feet (2200 metres). While we have all made this kind of effort for a single day, doing it for 5 consecutive days will be a real test of our physical and mental fortitude. Great training and excellent teamwork will help get us to the end but we also need your support!
Mary's Meals
Mary’s Meals is a global movement that sets up school feeding programmes in communities where poverty and hunger prevent children from gaining an education. The charity now feeds more than 1.1 million children every school day and it costs just £13.90/€15.60 /$19.50 to feed a child for a year.
The contribution you make will have a positive impact on lives around the world. Having your support will carry the 5 of us over every single hill and keep us turning those pedals when all we want to do is sleep!
