UPDATE
Norman's Grandson, Harry is holding a charity Warhammer Tournament known as FIGHT for SIGHT in memory of his dear grandad.
The competition can be seen at www.macular40k.org.uk
We are encouraging entrants amongst Harry's Warhammer pals to raise money, but we also hope that we can attract some generous contributions from our friends and family too.
Our dad was a beautiful kind man. Sadly, on 16th January we lost him after a long period of multiple cancers.
Those of you who knew dad will know that his life, apart from his devotion to mum and his family, was built around a love of books.
For the last fifteen years or so, Dad’s sight was slowly taken by age-related macular degeneration. Over time it robbed him of his ability to read without intense effort or extreme focus using visual aids. As much as it was cancer that ended his life, the saddest thing was to see him lose his ability to read.
Not just that, Dad had to surrender his driving licence long before he was physically unable to drive. This loss of easy mobility had a profound effect on Mum and Dad's world, and their sense of freedom
We’d like to raise some money for Macular Society as a lesser known charity in the hope that it can support others in dad’s situation.
All the funds we raise in memory of Dad will help make sure ours is the last generation to suffer the devastation of macular disease by funding ground breaking research to find a cure. And as more people are diagnosed with this cruel and isolating condition, your donations will also provide the emotional support, advice and reassurance they need to help with life after diagnosis.
It would help us find some comfort from knowing how much others will benefit because of your thoughtful gifts in Dad’s memory.
