Story
My wonderful mum is gone. She passed away peacefully, at home, surrounded by her family on 1st April 2019.
I won't be running the London Marathon this year anymore as everything is just too raw but I am determined to keep my pledge to complete a marathon and raise important funds for Anthony Nolan. I talked to Mum about it before we lost her and Dad and I have both entered the Loch Ness Marathon. Mum loved the Highlands and Scotland; this will be in her memory.
2021 update - Dad and I are going to he running the Great North Run together in September. I'll then be running the London & Chicago Marathon Majors back to back. Plus two Ultras and a few more half Marathons for good measure! All to push on and try to hit £10,000 target for TeamAN
2020 update - Anthony Nolan have very kindly given me places at London and Berlin Marathons to keep going with my fundraising. I'm not done yet and feel like I need to keep going for Mum. Due to Covid I've had to get a bit more creative with the challenges this year. Which means the 2.6 Challenge has replaced London, Saints Way Ultra has replaced Berlin and the Virtual London Marathon in October is a extra. Thank you for reading and supporting xx
Our original message - In September 2018 we found out my Mum (Kim Pattison) was in need of a Stem Cell transplant to treat the rare form of Lymphoma - Mycosis Fungoides - which she has been grappling with for the last five years. I had never heard of a Stem Cell transplant or Anthony Nolan before. I didn't know that Stem Cell transplants are essential in treating the type of cancer my mum has and that Anthony Nolan are the ones that make it happen. Not only do they manage and maintain the donor register in the UK but they also link into registers around the world and do all the leg work to bring matches together. They are working hard to find my mum a Stem Cell match and I want to do something for them!
The next few months for mum will include chemotherapy and radiotherapy to bring the cancer into remission and get her ready for the transplant. When I asked her who I should try and run and raise money and awareness for, Anthony Nolan was top of the list. Getting to the £2k fundraising target is going to be a full Team Pattison effort!
Every day, Anthony Nolan saves the lives of people with a blood cancer or blood disorder. We do this by matching incredible individuals willing to donate their stem cells to people who desperately need a lifesaving transplant. We also carry out cutting edge scientific research, fund specialist post-transplant nurses and support patients and their families through the transplant process and beyond. We won’t stop until we save the lives of everyone who needs a stem cell transplant. Every penny you donate brings us closer to that day.
