Story
Last year my Mum went for a walk only for her to never return. While she was out on her walk she called me to say “somethings happening, I need help” then hung up the phone. This would be the last time I would ever speak to her.
Dad and I found her hobbling saying I can’t feel my right leg, my head feels like I have a clamp around it. Mum had a history of high blood pressure and previously suffered with Bells Palsy so I instantly called for an ambulance thinking she was having a stroke or some other neurological issue.
Over the next 90 minutes, 3 more calls were made to 999 desperately in need of an ambulance as she continued to deteriorate to the point I had to begin CPR on her as she was losing consciousness and going purple.
I got her stable by the time the ambulance arrived, the paramedics done some tests and took her to A&E.
She was in a queue of 8 other ambulances waiting where she ended up fatally having a witness seizure. The paramedics rushed her through for a CT Scan, sent the results to the brain specialists in Southampton where we were then told “Becky has had a brain aneurysm, it is irreversible and unsurvivable, so there is unfortunately nothing more we can do”
Over the next 3 and a half days, going 40 hours without sleep at one point, we were sat in the Radnor Ward ICU knowing the eventuality that Mum would be passing away. My closest friends and family dropped everything to be with us in this time of need which I’ll forever be grateful for. She was supposed to pass away on my birthday but held on to celebrate it with me and eventually passed away the day after on the 11th June.
In memory of mum - Myself & Tiff will be completing the Manchester Marathon separately to raise as much money as possible for Radnor ICU Ward.
I will be aiming to complete this marathon in under 3 and a half hours for my first ever marathon in the space of having trained for 1 year. I have quite literally put blood, sweat and tears into this training so please give what you can to the incredible superheroes of this world!
