Story
In memory of Helen Clark 1982-2013.
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. This page has been set up so that people can donate money in loving memory of Helen.
Helen fought very bravely for 20 months after being diagnosed with Aplastic Anaemia early in December 2011. She underwent three stem cell (bone marrow) transplants, and had a huge number of blood transfusions. Tragically, aged just 31 years old, she lost her battle on 1 August 2013, after being poorly with graft versus host disease. This sadly is an all too common complication unique to stem cell transplantations & in many cases it is fatal.
We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Helen & this is our way of creating something positive out of this tragedy. We want to raise as much money as possible to support research looking at ways of treating & minimising the impact of graft versus host disease for stem-cell transplant patients to improve survival rates & to increase the quality of life for those who do survive.
We are asking that instead of funeral flowers, people donate to this worthy cause.
We also ask that those who can, join the bone marrow register & give blood in her memory. It won't bring her back but it will help others & keep her memory alive.
This is just the first of many fundraising initiatives we will be doing in her memory. We hope as many of her friends, colleagues & acquaintances will help us do good things in her name.
Thank you for your time & donation.
