Story
Hello and thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and for reading further about why Thyroid Cancer is so close to my heart.
Just over a year ago I lost my father in law Jim to Thyroid Cancer. Who at just 66yrs old, left us all too soon following a hard fought year long battle with the big C.
Jim underwent a lot of first class treatment at the Freeman Hospital Newcastle where he was supported and looked after by their excellent staff and members of the Butterfly Thyroid team, which is why in Jim's memory I hope to help those still living and battleing Thyroid Cancer by raising as much awairness and money for those who are suffering from a little known form of the many cancers out there.
The Challenge
Last year in Jim's memory I entered the Great North Swim only to have the event cancelled 2 day's prior due to blue/green alge. This year the challenge of a mile in Lake Windermere will go ahead and this Sunday morning I will hit the water which is now just above 16 degrees.
I will keep you up to date with how I get on right here on my page and thank you for taking an interest.
The Charity
At present Thyroid Cancer is rare but numbers are rising and currently stands at 1,400 new cases in the UK each year. The Butterfly Trust aims to help those diagnosed with thyroid cancer by offering information, support and encouragement to those suddenly thrown into a frightening and some times isolating time in their lives.
Your Donations will;
Enable the dedicated telephone helpline to continue to offer support and information.
Sustain the website that provides contact for patients and have a buddy to support patients through the stages of surgery, RAI treatment and follow up.
and provide much needed advice and support to those batteling Thyroid Cancer.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
So please dig deep and donate now.
Many Thanks,
Ingrid xx
