Story
I will be running my first Marathon this year in memory of my Dad and to support Haematology Cancer Care.
My dad was diagnosed with leukaemia in the summer of 2019 and had a bone marrow transplant within three months of the diagnosis at UCLH. UCLH Haematology Cancer Care had given utmost care and support to Ian throughout, before and after diagnosis.
My dad had remained positive, strong and resilient towards his condition and the side effect of a bone marrow transplant. His fighting spirit is highly commendable. Unfortunately, he caught a rare virus over the Christmas period of 2021, and this had caused his health deterioration and he no longer was able to fight it. Sadly, my dad passed away on 25th January 2022.
I now wish to raise money for UCLH Haematology Cancer Care as a gesture of my gratitude to all the amazing medical teams and staff especially the Macmillian Centre staff, Haematology Care Ward, Critical Care Ward who had cared for my Dad throughout the difficult period of his life.
My dad was my best friend and I am so grateful for this experience and cannot wait to make him proud one more time.
