Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In December 2015, we welcomed our second son Sennen into our lives; a happy, content little soul who gave me immense joy. We enjoyed such an amazing year together. Just days after helping Sennen celebrate his first birthday, he died suddenly and unexpectedly. His death devastated us.
The Lullaby Trust offered compassionate bereavement support to our family as we tried to find a way to rebuild our lives following this trauma. The Lullaby Trust undertake extensive research into the cause and prevention of sudden infant deaths, and educate health professionals and the general public in how to reduce the risk. They have significantly reduced the rate of sudden infant deaths in the UK which is now at an all-time low.
I hope to complete this half marathon as a way of honouring Sennen's life while raising money for an incredibly important organisation. I started running recently as a way of trying to cope with some of the powerful effects of my grief and to try and find a way of improving my mental health so I can try and be strong for my other two sons. The half marathon will be my longest run yet.
Any contribution you can afford will be so helpful. Thank you.
To give you an idea of what your donation could provide, here is some guidance from the Lullaby Trust;
- £2.50 could pay for a support package to be sent to a bereaved family, giving advice, sharing experiences from other bereaved parents and signposting to where they can get further support.
- £7 could pay for 100 copies of our ‘Product Guide for Parents’ to be printed, which explains the factors you should consider when you buy a product for your baby, what essential items they need and what products you should try to avoid.
- £14.50 could pay for our bereavement helpline to provide advice and support to a first-time caller. Our support service is available whether people are newly bereaved or the bereavement was many years ago.
- £21 could pay for 10 families to receive a copy of our ‘Safer Sleep for Babies Guide for Parents’, containing advice on how you can sleep your baby more safely to reduce the risk of SIDS.
- £41 could pay to train a health professional in safer sleep advice about how to reduce the risk of SIDS, which they can pass on directly to the hundreds of parents they each work with.
- £51 could pay for a bereaved family to attend a Lullaby Trust Family Day, allowing them to spend time with their children, remember their baby who died, and to access face-to-face information and support.
- £730 could pay for one SISS movement monitor to support a bereaved family on our Care of Next Infant programme, helping to reduce anxiety and allowing them to enjoy the first year of their baby’s life.
