I lost my Mum to this cruel and horrible disease in Feb 2013.
My Mum was diagnosed with early onset dementia in the January of 2010 by Feb 2013 the dementia had a firm grip on her and she sadly passed away.
Everyone says their Mum is the best but mine really was. She never has a bad bone in her body and would always be there with a helping hand for everyone and a big huge smile on her face to cheer you up.
Mum had a rough last 6 months of her life, she was forever in and out of hospital. She was unable to eat, couldn't walk or even communicate with you. I couldn't believe that my Mum was slowly slipping away from me.
Mum became really poorly in over Christmas 2012 and this is where the downfall happened. She was so poorly that she became bed bound, she couldnt eat or drink therefore she placed on a drip and other meds. However the week leading upto her death she had not responded to anything and it was discussed that everything should be taken from her.
I remember everything like it was yesterday, Mon the 4th Feb I got a call from my sister to say the doctor had been and said there was nothing else more they could do except make her last few days as comfortable as possible. Tuesday 5th Feb My Mum took her last breath at 10.30pm. The whole family were with her and she did go peacefully.
Nearly 8 months on and not a day doesnt go by without me thinking of her. I talk to my little girl and boy about her all the time and they look for her in the sky with the stars. Nana is always the one shining the brightest.
In March I decided I needed to get a grip of my health for the sake of my children, that is when I found running. I started with doing 3 miles and finally increasing upto 7-8 miles. Running has definately helped with the grief of my mum and I absolutely love it. Whenever things started to get me down, I was out and it would always help me feel that little bit better & that is why Ive decided to do this half marathon...for my Mum xxx
