Story
It has been 22 years since we sadly lost my Mum Elizabeth to Cancer.
She was only 49 years old. She never got the opportunity to meet her two beautiful daughter in laws, their wonderful families or her amazing 5 grandchildren.
My children Amelia, Lucas and Lola always talk about their 'Irish Granny' we keep her alive through funny stories, memories and dancing to Abba or Robbie Williams!
Mum loved to dance, it would have been amazing to see Mummy K and Mummy G dancing away. They would have lit up any dance floor!
I was in Amelia's room last week and found a letter which said to the people I miss the most. She had written a letter to her 'Irish Granny' saying she wished she had got to meet her and given her a big hug.
I know my Mum would have been a 'fun' grandparent, taking the kids out on trips, dancing to mini disco and encouraging them all to be happy and kind to everyone they meet.
When Mum was going through her treatment at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in 2000 she got great care and treatment. When she sadly passed away my aim in life was to someday work at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and follow in my Mums footsteps of being a nurse.
Well... I nearly made it, I am a social worker and for the last 5 years I have worked from the NHS at The Cheshire & Merseyside Cancer Alliance which is hosted at... The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. Every project I work on I am focused on innovation being inclusive and always keeping the patient at the centre of everything we do!
The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre is one of the largest networked cancer centres in the UK, and is the only dedicated charity for patients and research. The Centre makes over 220,000 patient contacts to over 30,000 patients a year, offering pioneering chemotherapy, radiotherapy and proton therapy treatments from eighteen operating sites across Merseyside and Cheshire.
I have chosen to support The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre charity, to help them improve patient experience, fund vital research, the latest therapies and innovations in cancer treatment.
Please give generously, thank you.
In our memories always my Mum, Elizabeth.
John, Amanda, Amelia, Luca, Lola & Lily xxxx
