Story

This page is a collection in memory of an amazing husband, brother, son, uncle and friend, Marcus Carr who died aged 38 on Wednesday 10th May 2017 at St
Joseph's Hospice.

For the past 13 years, Marcus has battled recurring bouts of an aggressive cancer to his head and neck as a result of an underlying genetic condition, Fanconi's Anemia, which he and his brother were diagnosed with at a young age.  Marcus faced this difficult journey with huge strength and resilience, he came through numerous major operations, radiotherapy and reconstructive facial surgery which were life changing in many challenging ways. It made day to day activities like eating, drinking and talking extremely hard and for many months almost completely impossible.

Despite all this, he continued to work full time as a GP until as recently as last year. He was a huge inspiration to us all, managing to enjoy life in the good times, create a loving and supportive home as well as keeping hold of his dry and sometimes dark sense of humour. Over the years, we have seen far too much of most of the hospitals in London and when there was nothing left that could be done, he was referred to St Joseph's in Hackney, just down the road from his and Andy's house.

Staff at St Joseph's took the time to get to know Marcus, listen and understand his needs. They managed his pain and made sure he was comfortable
and supported as well as being in control of decisions about his care. Visitors were made to feel welcome and they made it easy for family and friends to come and go.  Although tragic and devastating, he died peacefully
knowing those he loved were with him, near or far. Lots of people have asked about a collection in his memory and his wishes were for any donations to go the St Josephs but there is no expectation for people to do so unless you want to..

He leaves his beloved husband Andy, Eric the dog, his brother and sister and wider family as well as his great friends and colleagues.  We will all miss him terribly.  In typical Marcus fashion, he wrote down his requests
for the funeral. He wanted a private cremation for immediate family only. Then, later in the summer, we will be holding a big party in remembrance of Marcus.
Everyone will be welcome to attend, it will take place in London in mid July, more details on this nearer the time.

Thank you for all your support and for any donations.

With Love

Toby, Andy and Katie xxx
