Story
Along with many others around the country, and with some members of the “Wright Wilde” family, I'm walking 31 miles in October to transform the future of pancreatic cancer.
Right now, half of people with pancreatic cancer die within three months of diagnosis. I have sadly known several people for whom this has been the case.
My wonderful mum, Lainey, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in November. She was given a poor prognosis and sent home from hospital with virtually no support, either emotional or medical. She, and my father were in shock.
Through this charity my dad, Jerry, found out about PERT - pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (Creon). He told Lainey’s GP about it, persuading them, with some difficulty, to prescribe it. Once she started on Creon, she stopped losing weight and, for a brief while, put some on. 11 months on my mum is still with us, albeit physically frail, but very much alive and still with her mischievous sense of humour, her strong faith and her generosity and beauty of spirit.
As a family we are so grateful for the emotional support that Pancreatic Cancer UK have given to my parents, for their advice and, most of all, for the extra time that we have had with my mum. We would definitely be in a different situation if it were not for this charity.
Thanks to kind supporters like you there is hope for others too! 💜
By donating to my small challenge, you're making support available for people now and funding world-leading research to find that breakthrough in new treatments which is so desperately needed. Any small amount will help to make a difference.
Together, we will bring more than hope to people affected by pancreatic cancer. 💜
Thank you so much for your support! 🙏
