Story
By the time this Charity Event starts it’s approximately 3 years that I’ve been playing tabletop games.
I feel this hobby in the scheme of things has been life changing as it’s pulled this binge drinking over weight Soldier who was rapidly declining health wise into a better Soldier, Husband, Dad & hobbyist that now enjoys life so much more with family and friends (new & old).
My weight, moods, personal wellbeing have all drastically improved over the years and I’m a better person all round for the changes that gaming has brought to my life (Just ask the Wife).
At the start of my gaming journey, I was introduced to A Song of Ice & Fire (ASOIAF) at Dukes Gaming by the owner Luke and a veteran called Byron. Little do the guys know how their initial efforts & enthusiasm stay long in memory.
We are now good friends and seeing Byron often makes me thinks of veteran’s support on the whole, knowing that like all those who have served before me , one day I will also become a veteran.
To that end I’ve decided to use The Imjin Tabletop Gaming Club as a platform to give a little back and say thank you.
By coincidence the HQ ARRC current chosen charity is ALABARE that supports homeless veterans in the Gloucestershire area so seems a natural choice of charity for this event.
I have also selected the children’s charity Scotty’s Little Soldiers for the support they give to children who have experienced the death of a parent who served in the British Armed Forces.
The Challenge
Initially I have set up a challenge where I will play ASOIAF for 24 hrs continuous against players including Byron. The additional challenge is I will change faction (8 factions available) every game along with the game mode.
This duration of this event will no doubt effect my thinking and decision making in the silent hours, so it will be interesting to see where this takes me.
As time moves on, I hope to add more support and players playing different gaming systems to make this event as successful as it can be.
Thanks for reading and any donation Is truly greatly appreciated.
