IMCD UK 25km for 25 Years Charity Walk · 27 May 2021
25 kilometres for 25 years
September 2020 marked the start of a year of 25th Anniversary celebrations for IMCD. It has provided an opportunity to reflect and celebrate the innovation and creativity that has been behind the growth of the business to a global company with over 3,000 employees.
With over 180 employees in the UK, we were keen to mark this in a way that could help us to reflect on our health, wellbeing and teamwork. After more than 12 months of working from home and multiple lock downs we wanted to find an activity that could bring us together to celebrate the ending of restrictions, the arrival of summer and IMCDs 25th Anniversary year. We settled on sponsored walk, which would help us to raise money for our nominated charity, Small Steps and will be taking on a 25km route later this summer.
Small Steps was chosen as the IMCD UK charity of the year for 2021, following an employee vote. It is a small charity, local to the Sutton office, that helps children with physical disabilities, aged from birth to 5 years, work on all areas of their development. These children have cerebral palsy, other forms of motor impairment, syndromes or sensory impairment, and need a great deal of extra stimulation and assistance to help them reach even the most basic milestones.
Like so many registered charities across the country, due to the Covid-19 pandemic Small Steps have been forced to cancel fundraising events and raising funds has proved more challenging than ever this year. Small Steps is a free service and receives no statutory funding, so is solely dependent on charitable grants, fundraising and donations.
Over fifty members of staff have signed up to complete a 25km circular walk from sites across the UK on the 8th July. Our training began in earnest last month with competitive team challenges taking place each week to keep us on track. We’re hoping to raise £5,000 to help Small Steps continue their amazing work enhancing the lives of disabled children and their families and would be very grateful for any donation.
