Story

I'm taking part in the Walk 100K in June challenge to support families facing dementia. Since recovering from open heart surgery I have been working hard on getting back to full fitness thanks to the wonderful staff and instructors at Inspire2Tri in Manton.

Consequently, I thought I should give something back, having received so much help from incredible people over the years who have nursed me back to health through cancer, strangulated hernias, heart attacks and an aortic valve replacement. These have all been fixable but there are plenty of things that cannot be fixed and dementia is something that I became aware of due to several people I know who became affected by it, including family.

I also wanted to give a nod to my old pal, Private Eye cartoonist, Tony Husband, who passed away suddenly last year. His father suffered with dementia and Tony drew and wrote a fantastic book about his father called Take Care Son: The Story of my Dad and his Dementia.

We also talked about the book and what they both went through on a podcast series I made called Gonzovation Conversations. It was an eye-opener and I learnt so much.

So I will walk 100K through June and hope we can all make a little difference by raising a few quid for such a worthwhile cause.

So if you can join in and sponsor me then it would be greatly appreciated!

Much Love

Here's the lowdown from Dementia UK:

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference.

Just £8 can cover the telephone costs for two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline.

£33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s behaviour.

Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Our nurses, called Admiral Nurses, provide life-changing care to families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimers disease. They help people with dementia stay independent for longer, and support the people caring for them so they have the strength to cope with the bad days, and the energy to enjoy the good days. They have the time to listen and the knowledge to solve problems, helping families take back control when they are struggling.
