Story
in June 2021 I’m going to cycle from Aberdeen to the Isle of Skye over two days, covering just over 316km and climbing roughly 2,650m in elevation - enough to summit the highest point in the 2017 Tour de France, the Col du Galibier.
My sister has been receiving treatment from Aberdeen Eye Clinic for the last 11 years having been diagnosed with two complex eye conditions - Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) first in 2010 and then Uveitis in 2011. She suffered permanent peripheral vision loss and eventually had an LP shunt fitted to save her remaining eyesight. She continues to need treatment for the chronic Uveitis and is closely monitored by the Eye Clinic.
Dealing with these eye conditions and subsequent health problems has been extremely difficult for her and she couldn’t have got through it without the exceptional care and treatment received at the Aberdeen Eye Outpatient Clinic. The Doctors and other staff guided her through two healthy and safe pregnancies, and she will be forever grateful to them for this and their ongoing care, particularly during this last year where she has continued to receive sight saving treatment despite the ongoing pandemic.
