Story
Give charity without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity.” - Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
The Rohingya crisis is a series of ongoing persecutions and killings of the Muslim Rohingya people by the Burmese military. There is a clear intent to destroy the Rohingya, with horrendous reports of killings, mass rape and arson. More than 6,000 people were killed in Myanmar in the first month of the unconscionable onslaught. As a result, about 900,000 Rohingya are currently living in overcrowded camps in Bangladesh, most of whom fled Myanmar since August 2017, to escape the military’s crimes against humanity and genocide.
Of these refugees, there remains many unfortunate orphans who are left without parents within the camps. Without a mother and father there to provide and care for them, these orphans are left vulnerable and without basic necessities essential for survival. Alhamdulillah, the sense of security a child feels around their parents is unmatched. However, this dependability has been taken away from the Rohingya orphans as they face the consequences of genocide purely because of their ethnicity and faith. How blessed we are to be able to live in a state of peace and a lack of conflict, whereas some are not as fortunate and live with the trauma of war. In the midst of this, there is a scarcity of food and resources for the refugees as a massive influx of Rohingya escapees continue to arrive.
This Ramadan, tens of thousands of children will not have enough food to break their fasts. Whilst the children continue to fast, they are met with near-to-nothing to break this hunger at the end of the day. Basic necessities such as water and food, which are seen as a given for many of us, are scarce within the refugee camps.
“I wish we had more food as we are fasting all day..” - Rohima, 9, Rohingya child
Just £10 could provide a child with wholesome meals each day. Give vulnerable orphans the care they are deprived of on account of the horrendous genocide.
Any simple donations will help to contribute to this regardless of the amount. All Zakat given is greatly appreciated.
