At the age of four I was diagnosed with spina bifida occulta, a condition that affects approximately 10% of children. This condition has impacted my every day life, restricting me from playing sports and participating in other activities. SHINE gave my parents and me the support we needed throughout my childhood and adolescence, they continue to support me by offering specialist advice and by keeping me aware of the available treatments to help reduce my symptoms.

Shine provides specialist support from before birth and throughout the life of anyone living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus, as well as to parents, families, carers and professional care staff.
