Story

Hello everyone!!

Thank you to everyone who have taken the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Next month, I'll be running in the IAAF/Cardiff University World Half Marathon Championships in aid of Cancer Research UK which I know from first hand experience, the amount of hard work and dedication given to fight such a cruel and devastating disease.

Cancer is an indiscriminate disease which can strike at any one time and has cruelly denied millions of people the right to live. The chances of surviving the "killer disease" around 40 years ago were incredibly slim and it was thought that we were in a fight that could never be won. Scientists involved in a variety of research projects at Cancer Research UK laboratories have made significant and groundbreaking discoveries over the years which have contributed to saving countless lives. Decades of first class research has seen the survival rates double and certain types of cancers being cured.

Conducting research over many years has gathered a considerable amount of information such as which genes are responsible in causing cancer and how tumors can expand and subsequently escalate. Research teams consisting of scientists and doctors at Cancer Research UK are currently involved in finding and testing new drugs as well as treatments for a variety of cancers.

However, (Apologies for boring you with the statistics) the figures are still quite staggering and gloomy with approximately 910 people being diagnosed every day and sadly 400 people also dying every day in the UK. Numerous advances have been made throughout the years and research into cancer is constantly evolving and progressing thanks to continuous commitment of researchers.

So if you can donate, even a small amount, It would go a long way in funding vital research that could change the lives of many and make such a difference.

With the help of all you good people, I'm sure we can make faster progress in ensuring that one day this savage disease is beaten for good!

Thank you all again!
