Story
In November 2011, a dear friend, Katie Compson sadly passed away at the tender age of just 33 after losing her brave fight against cervical cancer. Katie was an incredible woman. She was brave, beautiful, incredibly intelligent and had a wicked sense of humour.
In memory of our beloved Katie, Emma, Sam and I will be competing in a RacingThePlanet 250km race over seven days around Iceland in August 2013. The race itself is broken up into six stages of varying length which all must be completed within certain time restrictions. Competitors must carry everything they require for the duration of the race except for a tent, so at the start of the race, our ruck sacks will be in the region of 10kg - as if walking 250km wasn't enough!
For 18 months Katie was treated at The Royal Marsden who fought tirelessly for her and her family. Poor Katie was subjected to all sorts of chemotherapy, various drug trails and revolutionary surgery. Before Katie passed away she was adamant that she wanted to raise money for The Royal Marsden.
The Royal Marsden dedicate their time to world-class research to find cures and effective treatment processes for all types of cancer. Whilst doing this, they also ensure that patients are treated in the most caring way, providing individually tailored care which meets the needs of the whole person. Every patient receives world-class levels of medical care in an environment that caters for their specific needs.
You can understand the need to keep funds coming to this amazing charity, so please dig deep and donate now!
Thank you for your support!
