Story
Attention!
All the funds collected before the 12th of April 2013 has been used to purchase the equipment as per our report distributed by email. You can also find photos of the purchased equipment and on our facebook page: Help the Little Ones".
The funds collected after the 12th of April, 2013 can not be transferred to Crimea due to the current political situation.
Within these unpredictable circumstances we decided to transfer funds to support another great cause of the fund "Tabletochki" https://www.justgiving.com/tabletochki .
They collect money to help the little boy from Ukraine to fight cancer. You can find the detailed information about the project here:

"HELP THE LITTLE ONES!" is an initiative to collect funds
needed to purchase vital equipment for the basic treatment of newborn patients
in the main Child Care Hospital # 5 in Sevastopol, Ukraine.
The infected newborn and premature born babies up to one month old are being
treated in this hospital. Some of them were abandoned by parents and their
recovery fully depends on the doctors and equipment.
EQUIPMENT WILL HELP TREAT JAUNDICE
What is jaundice? One of the most common infections that effects up to 70% of
newborns. For every 20th newborn, jaundice turns to pathological. The excess of
bilirubin in the blood cells as a result of jaundice can lead to anemia, that
can cause destruction of brain cells and provoke delayed mental and physical
development.
The pathological jaundice is mostly common for premature babies as well as for
bottle-fed babies, as the mother’s milk helps to eliminate the excessive
bilirubin. Therefore the chances to get infected by jaundice are higher
for the babies abandoned by parents at birth.
The most effective way to treat the jaundice is the phototherapy.
WHAT IS THE EQUIPMENT WE INTEND TO PURCHASE?
To treat jaundice, infected baby needs to go through the sessions of
phototherapy. It is light treatment that breaks down bilirubin in the baby's
blood. Every therapeutic radiator is equipped with special lamps.
At the moment the Hospital #5 urgently needs the new set of equipment for
phototherapy in order to be able to treat 10-20 new-borns on daily basis. The
average phototherapy session is 12-24 hours. Two old lamps currently used by
the hospital don’t cover the need at all.
We need 5,140 GBP to buy 3 radiators with a 1 year supply of photo lamps each.
See its breakdown of amount on our facebook page.
WHO WE ARE
Three Ukrainians, AIESEC alumni (Nadya Lyubyva, Lubow Shegolkova, Mariya
Lukavskaya) supported by the fund "Ukraine Charity" and the local NGO
“The mothers of Sevastopol” organized the fundraising campaign to collect the
funds for the purchase of the equipment for jaundice treatment.
One of the organizers many years ago was treated as a newborn in the Hospital
#5 herself and just couldn’t stay indifferent to the problem which can be
easily solved by the community effort.
We will be informing all contributors about the progress of our initiative and
will provide the financial report by the end of the campaign.
