Story
On the 28th May, my dad found out that he has Angiosarcoma of the spleen, which is a rare cancer that develops in the inner lining of blood vessels and lymph vessels. Because it’s so rare, it’s very difficult to diagnose, often resulting in the cancer spreading before it’s finally identified. Sadly, this is the case for my dad who was told his cancer was already at Stage 4, meaning that it has spread to other parts of his body and is not curable 😔
This news was a huge shock to our whole family & has been made even harder with the whole COVID situation. Dad has been great about it all - he is currently just finished his 3rd cycle of chemotherapy & doing all he can to spend as much time with his loving family and friends.
My brother, John, has pulled together a team including me, my other brother Dave (who has only just got a bike...!), and some of our close friends, to take part in the London to Brighton bike ride on the 13th September 2020. It’s 55 miles! I haven’t cycled (or done much exercise at all) for 2 years, so it’s going to be a gruelling ride 😬. But I wanted to do it to help raise funds and awareness of Angiosarcoma in the hope that they can improve diagnostics & treatments to give others a better chance in the future.
I have started my training with Dan (best mate who has joined the team) - we haven’t quite made it to half the distance yet, but there’s still time... right..!!
Thank you for supporting me, my family and Sarcoma UK.
