Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I'm raising funds for a charity that is making a difference, delivering a telemedicine service directly into rural areas in some of the poorest places on earth. It's all about helping people being treated in local areas and avoiding long and uncomfortable trips, often walking or cycling, to distant hospitals as well as helping to educate isolated Clinical Officers. To help I am embarking on my own long and uncomfortable staged walk to raise badly needed funds!
The charity is making great progress and with your help so am I! My long walk continues. I will be spurred on in the knowledge that the charity needs more funds to expand the service. Why, you may ask? Well let me explain. I enjoy walking but, sadly, can see my walking days coming to an end as I have the beginnings of advanced arthritis, so it's a case of now or never perhaps!
I have already completed the first leg of my challenge and am setting off on Leg 2 - the 80k Portugese part of the trip between 5 - 10 October. I will be accompanied by Jenny.
I want to raise money to help expand the clinics in which Virtual Doctors serve in Zambia and Malawi and I am especially excited about the possibility of working in a new country, Kenya, if additional resources are forthcoming.
Now on this challenging trip I won't have a donkey, a cycle or any other mode of transport besides my two creaking legs but I will have the company of some good companions and will be motivated by the knowledge that I am making a difference to the lives of people in Africa with your support and enabling our wonderful volunteer doctors covering multiple specialisms (who now number over 100) to help too.
Please give generously!
