Story
An Eagle Scout Project has many prerequisites. A Scout needs to show leadership, develop a plan, work with others, as well as serving others. But there is one requirement that stands above the rest, helping your community. Whenever I would come back home from the Theodore Naish Scout Reservation, whether it was from camping, meetings, or even staffing during the summer, I would always pass a billboard. On that billboard was just six words, "One in Five Children Face Hunger."
When trying to figure out what would be the right Eagle Scout Project, I would always think back to the billboard. I then found out about M.U.F.F.I.N., or Mothers United For Families In Need. Each year, M.U.F.F.I.N. provides thousands of meals to children and families in the Olathe, Kansas area. When I learned about them, I realized that this was the perfect way to help.
My goal is to raise enough food and supplies to help feed over one hundred families, as well as raising awareness. Food insecurity is a major problem. Without organizations such as M.U.F.F.I.N., who provide meals for kids and families in need, many more people would go hungry.
I mentioned earlier that I would think back to the billboard. "One in Five Children Face Hunger", in the United States, that number is around 1.7 million children.. This project will not be able to fix that completely, but I believe that if this project reaches enough people, others will be inspired to help.
