Story
On 26th October I will be setting out on a 7 day trek in Jordan where I will trek from Dana Reserve to the ancient ‘Rose-Red’ city of Petra, approximately 90 miles. The trek will take me through some of the most rugged country in Jordan and the nights will be spent camping Bedouin style. This trek is in memory of Keith Hern, a wonderful husband to Madeleine and loving and caring father to Jessica who sadly lost his battle with cancer on the 26 May 2014. I am proud to say that he was also a great friend of mine. He had been constantly battling various cancers for 7 years and throughout he inspired people from around the world with his updates on Facebook and his inspiring presentations about his life to many audiences. Keith was a talented photographer and was passionate about travel and travel photography. I first met Keith, just after he had recovered from throat cancer, when trekking Iceland and we shared a two man tent, not an easy thing to do for two six foot men with all our equipment! On this trek he taught me about photography and we regularly rose before sunrise to ensure we had the best light for the photographs. It is unusual to ‘hit it off’ with someone in such a short time but such was Keith charisma and fantastic humour that it was easy. Just before Keith was diagnosed with this final cancer he had planned a trek which unfortunately he was never able to go on. I met Keith on a trek and knowing his passion for adventure and seeing countries I am dedicating this trek to him and raising money for the magnificent hospital, The Royal Marsden, and its staff to say a big thank you to all they did to help him throughout his time under their care. Please give generously. All the money raised will go to the hospital.
