Story
There is joy on September 11 this year. Forget 9/11, floods, all consuming fires, and several wars. Ian and Jenny are getting married on Ian’s 75th birthday in his grandmother’s former home Southover Grange, Lewes.
This page is for those who would like to give something to share the occasion as we have specifically requested no presents. We have enough stuff!
If you care to make a comment, humourous or other we will be keeping them and bring them out at various romantic celebrations.
Rhino have been on the planet for 50 million years, and have evolved into their current form throughout that time as the environment and their habitat has changed. They now face their biggest challenge as man restricts their natural habitat and kills them for their horn. Last week two were killed and horns removed in one of our partner’s reserves.
Our wedding proceeds will go to contribute to the immediate need to protect rhinos from the threat of poachers, a threat that is greater now due to the COVID crisis and a lack of tourism income. This will include the purchase and fitting of radio tracking collars to rhinos in one of our key projects in South Africa. The procedure is carried out by a skilled veterinary team and will assist rangers to locate their rhinos and provide better protection from the poachers. In the medium term the proceeds will help to expand and protect the wild spaces critical for the long term survival of the rhino. This will include taking down fences, increasing security technology and restoring degraded habitat. Email Ian (ian@kerr-watson.myzen.co.uk) if you would like to know more on either of these projects.
More details of the collaring is here: https://www.helpingrhinos.org/40collars
In total it costs £975 per animal to locate, sedate, get a vet check, DNA test and fit a collar. It could save an animals life.
Anything you can contribute towards the cost would be fantastic.
