Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Oh dear, here we go again! It's time to hit the road again with the fabulous prospect of running not one, but two marathons this year in aid of a great cause, Send A Cow. Having not run since the London marathon in April 2010 (yes, it was that rewarding on the body!), I am ready again to literally pound the streets. Hard to believe, I know, that such a primed athlete like me needs to train, but I am determined to give it my all.
I will be running the Edinburgh marthon in May 2011 and then the Dingle marathon in South West Ireland in September 2011.
Send A Cow really is a great cause and is linked with Heifer International. Please, please, dig as deep as you can - this is very close to my heart and will mean so much to so many. Look at it like this - the money you give is merely a payment for not having to run two marathons! Or if you like, you could join me - 5.30am tomorrow morning for training!
I will keep the page updated as I progress
Many thanks
Ian

Update, 22nd May 2011
One down, one to go. I completed the Edinburgh marathon in 4hrs36mins. Up to mile 18, I was heading for under 4 hours, but then I had to suddenly pull up as my left knee decided to stop working. It was so painful, I didn't know how I was going to complete the 8 miles to the finish. I had no choice but to regularly combine stopping, stretching, walking and running very slowly! This has not been the easiest experience as 4 weeks before the race, my training was cut to a minimum due to a different leg injury. Race day was a mixture of sun, driving rain and strong winds.
However, it's done and a great feeling knowing that the generous donations are making a real difference to others. Thank you so much.
Update 5th September 2011
It's done!!! I finished the Dingle marathon in 4hrs 54 mins. What a beautiful route, although this is not a marathon for those who like the flat! Numerous hills, with a real killer at mile 21, make this a challenging run, although the views and lovely people help you through the pain. Thank you to all who have donated, you've made a real difference to many.
