We help the brain tumour community to feel less alone and more in control

Story

On average 33 people every day in the UK are diagnosed with a brain tumour. So, to raise funds for the Brainstrust charity, I am going to run 33K (20 miles) around the Eton Dorney Olympic lake as part of the Eton Dorney running event on 12 September 2021.

My wonderful Dad was kindness personified and even when diagnosed with a Brain Tumour he wanted to volunteer at Birmingham QE hospital to help others. Sadly his decreasing mobility prevented this and it was so hard to see how this disease restricted his life, the increasing fatigue and the battle he had to just get through each day.

After his diagnosis, I remember feeling numb at first, but then confused as to where to go for support for Dad - and our family. He fought bravely for an incredible 4 years. I know he would have wanted to make a difference to others even after his passing, especially those living with a Brain Tumour. Please help me to make this happen by supporting Brainstrust.

Brainstrust are a small UK based charity who provide invaluable support for individuals with brain cancer…and their families. They invented the ‘Brainbox’ - a must have innovative support toolkit with vital information for individuals and their carers to help make sense of things …plus some simple little luxury items to put a much-needed smile on faces!

Brainstrust provide counselling therapy and coaching for people to help them understand how they can live their fullest life possible - and not be ‘just a patient’. They produce guides which explain the various treatment options.

For Dad, little things became very important and he appreciated any small acts of kindness and support. He would have very much approved of the work Brainstrust do. For me, I intend to explore ways I can help them with ensuring more people get access to these materials at the earliest stage.

I will give it everything I have for Dad and each of the 33 on each kilometre.
