Stepney Refugee Welcome campaign

E123 Welcomes Refugees Sponsored Walk · 20 October 2019
I'm part of the "E123 Welcomes Refugees" group, who under the Community Sponsorship scheme are going to resettle a refugee family in our neighbourhood.
And my "short" walk means that you can be part of the solution to the refugee crisis by just clicking the donate button.
Part of this work means that we need to raise £12000.
So on the 20th October at 6am I going to walk 9 miles through London with the things that I quickly put in my rucksack as if needed to leave in a rush. Now this seems almost an insult when "UNHCR traced the journeys of refugees around the world and calculated that collectively, people forced to flee travel approximately two billion kilometres every year to reach the first point of safety. In 2016, Syrian refugees travelled more than 240 kilometres to reach Turkey. South Sudanese refugees travelled more than 640 kilometres to reach Kenya and Rohingya refugees in Myanmar travelled approximately 80 kilometres to reach Bangladesh."
So please help a refugee family make a new journey to a safe, secure and independent life.
E123 Welcomes Refugees Story. We are a community group in Tower Hamlets East London working to resettle a refugee family in our community, supporting them to be welcomed and settle into the community. We are able to do this under the Community Sponsorship scheme that gives power to local volunteer groups to resettle a refugee family in their neighbourhood. It is a big commitment, but we feel that we must help in what is being called the biggest humanitarian and refugee crisis of our time. This crisis, that has displaced over 5 million people, can seem so big that we feel power less but that is not the case. You can help a refugee family by donating to our group or becoming a fundraiser for this campaign. We need to raise £12,000 to cover various costs like translation, furnishing the house and English classes. We also need to Find and furnish an affordable home for a refugee family for a period of 2 years Welcome the family at the airport and settle them in their new community.
