Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm going to be cycling from Geneva to Milan next week, scaling an Alpine mountain, and getting very sore in the process. But it looks absolutely stunning, so I'm not complaining.
Anyway, I'm hoping to raise money for the charity - The Duchenne Family Support Group - that first got me cycling decent distances. It was Idris Newnham, a boy about my age and a family friend, who had a particular type of muscular dystrophy (Duchenne), which is a genetic disorder that causes muscle weakness. He very sadly died aged 18.
Around 25 years ago I took part in the charity's ride from Highbury in Islington to Harlow in Essex. 30 miles. As a family we did their ride every year and I cycled to Brighton aged 12, Southend and other places. I haven't done anything similar for years though, so am getting back on my bike and it felt right to raise money for the charity that first inspired me.
I hope you'll be able to support me and I'll be incredibly grateful if you're able to take a moment to sponsor me.
For anyone interested in the cycling side of things I'm doing this with an organisation called Ride25 and they've selected what I hope will be a spectacularly beautiful route. I'm just a little worried about the small matter of cycling up a mountain or two - they don't really have them in Kent. If you're interested, here are the details of the ride:
