Story
In July 2020, I retired from Durham police. In August I attended my Doctors surgery with indigestion problems. In September I was diagnosed with a rare form of appendix cancer, pseudomyxoma peritonei, affecting 1-2 people in a million per year. By October I was in Basingstoke hospital preparing for the mother of all surgeries. After a 16 hour operation during which my spleen and gall bladder were removed a liquid chemotherapy bath undertaken, I lost 3 stone in weight and walked with the aid of a drip stand, liquids my only form of nourishment. After 2 weeks in hospital, I was discharged to start my recovery. Walking at first, my first run in the snow in January. The human body is a remarkable thing and I am about to run 13 miles around Kielder!!
I am running for cancer research to say thank you to the amazing doctors and nurses at Basingstoke hospital. Without research into this rare disease and how best to treat it I would not be here today. Please help others by contributing .
