Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Earlier this year my good friend and half of my Carlsberg neighbours Jimmy Balmer passed away from Idiopathic Pulmonary fibrosis. Jimmy had only been Diagnosed in early 2020 with this disease and this changed his life very quickly with him having to give up work and also stopped him from travelling, something that he loved to do.
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a condition in which the lungs become scarred and breathing becomes increasingly difficult. It's not clear what causes it, but it usually affects people who are around 70 to 75 years old, and is rare in people under 50. This being said Jimmy was one of the rare people to have it early in life.
There is no known cure for this disease and this is where Northern Trust Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group comes in. This group was set up to support those suffering from IPF, and their families, to help them with information that will help support them through this challenging change to their lives. The group hold weekly sufferers and carers meetings via zoom that let's people share their stories on whats working and what's not.
The group have very recently purchased a respite Lodge for its members to use to get away for short breaks without all the hassle that a holiday brings for people with IPF.
My aim is to raise enough money to purchase a mobile air conditioning unit for this lodge.
