SaTH Charity and the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust Ophthalmology Department is raising money to purchase a wide field retinal scanner that will significantly increase the ability to detect sight threatening eye conditions and hence prevent blindness.
This important piece of equipment provides a wide-field view of the back of the patients eye (retina) including the central retina (macula) in just 2-5 minutes and will increase our capacity by up to 40 patients per day while reducing waiting times. It will improve early diagnosis of sight threatening conditions, provide early treatment to prevent blindness and improve the prognosis for vision in every patient.
The scanner will benefit patients with conditions that lead to blindness such as Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, Retinal Vein Occlusion, Retinal Detachment and many more. This will help patients to maintain vision and independence by achieving quality of vision and hence quality of life.
